Just a quick note to say go check out my new necklaces at www.AQuirkOfArt.com! I've fallen in love with multi-chain necklaces...so far I've created two of them, both of which are on the site. This one is my favorite:
You can read more about it here: http://www.aquirkofart.com/necklaces/mixed_media1.htm
Although, I love this one too!
Find out more about this piece here: http://www.aquirkofart.com/necklaces/pirates_booty.htm
Both pieces looks so great on...so much better than in the photos. This is when I wish I could have my pieces photographed on a model, or that I was much better at digital photography than I am. Seeing these on would definately give you much better appreciation of them.
What I like about the first piece, and what I've been trying to do more of in my work, is to incorporate my found objects into the actual chain or neckpiece, like I did with the piece of ruler. I have a necklace in the works that is entirely found objects and metal pieces joined by chain and wire-wrapped links...so its less of a charm necklace, but still has a funky feel to it. I'll have it done in the next week or so, so be sure to check my blog and my store to see it!
For those of you in the PA/NY/NJ area, I'll be at Peddler's Village in Lahaska, PA next weekend--June 2 & 3. This is going to be a great show with lots of fine art and quality contemporary crafts, plus live music. Stop by if you get the chance! You can get directions and more info here.
I'm very excited for this show, and very inspired to make some great pieces! This past weekend I spent some time at my favorite antique store and have some great new finds to incorporate into my jewelry. There's nothing like a couple of hours digging through drawers and drawers of wonderful old bits and bobs to get my creative muses talking. I know, I know, I'm strange - but I LOVE digging through what many people would consider junk looking for just the right find, whatever "it" may be.
I'll be posting the winner of the free jewelry drawing from my show in Bethlehem, PA later tonight--So if you stopped by my booth, be sure to check your email and this blog later tonight to see if you're the lucky winner!
I've been featured on www.beadfreak.com!
I was quite honored with Cynthia, owner of the awesome beadstore Ornamentea and its online store www.beadfreak.com, contacted me about being their "Inspiration" website! I was very flattered and very excited! For those artists and jewelry designers out there, be sure to check out www.beadfreak.com for all sorts of cool components, supplies and bits and bobs not easily found elsewhere! Cynthia also has a funny and informative blog called Shiny Little Things...you can read it here: http://shinylittlethings.blogspot.com/.
I'm not too shy to pimp myself out...come be my friend on MySpace!
If you haven't friended me on MySpace yet, why not?!? You can find me at http://www.myspace.com/aquirkofart. While you're there, check my my new favorite band, the decidedly odd and talented Vermillion Lies.
